Weather Update: IMD issues orange alert for Delhi; Active monsoon conditions likely for Northwest, East and Northeast India

As per IMD prediction, Southwest Monsoon is expected to extend its cover in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh in a couple of days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted active monsoon conditions over Northwest India from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. The eastern side of India, namely Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim is likely to experience the same weather along with the northeast region for the next 3-4 days. Moreover, Southwest Monsoon is expected to extend its cover in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh in a couple of days.

Delhi Weather Update:

An orange alert has been issued for the national capital for the next two days but it didn’t receive rainfall as per the prediction by the IMD. A weather forecast agency, Skymet, has posted on its X account, that the previous two days have experienced some relief from the heavy downpours in Delhi and NCR. However, weather experts have forecast the recurrence of intensified rainfall from July 2”. As per IMD’s seven-day forecast, Delhi will generally have a cloudy sky, an average to heavy rainfall is expected along with thunderstorms and lightning.

IMD’s Forecast for Heavy Rainfall

As per Met Department’s latest weather bulletin, a cyclonic circulation has been identified over Haryana along with a channel that is extending from Punjab to Mizoram in the lower tropospheric levels. Under these weather conditions, isolated heavy rainfall is likely to occur over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and West Rajasthan from July 2 to July 5. East Madhya Pradesh will experience it on July 3 and July 4. Chhattisgarh will get it on July 2 and July 3.

Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected to occur over Uttarakhand today.  Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to have isolated very heavy downpours on July 2 and July 3, Himachal Pradesh might get it for today whereas East Rajasthan will have it from July 3 to July 5.

Sikkim, West Bengal & Northeast India too will have heavy showers

Bihar is forecast to have an isolated heavy wet spell from July 2 to July 5, Jharkhand will receive it on July 2 and July 3 and West Bengal is likely to have it on July 4 and July 5. An extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated over Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh during the same period. Meghalaya and Assam will get it on July 2.

A similar weather pattern has been observed by the Weather Department for the Western region of India. Isolated very heavy precipitation may take place over Gujarat on July 2, 3, and July 5, Goa, Konkan, and Gujarat from July 2 to July 5. Madhya Pradesh is probably to get it on July 2. South Interior Karnataka will deal with weather situations from July 3 to July 5, Mahe, Kerala and Coastal Karnataka will get it on July 2 and July 3. Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall may happen over Kutch and Saurashtra on July 2.
