Unfettered by the continuous sloganeering and jeering by leaders of the Opposition during his reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took potshots at the Opposition benches and said that he “understands their pain”.
“For the third consecutive time, and despite joining all their forces together, the people of the nation have chosen them as the Opposition. I understand their pain,” PM Modi said in the Lok Sabha.
In his reply to the debate on the motion, PM Modi said that his government has brought 25 crore people out of poverty and ended the practice of the politics of appeasement that went on for several years. “Instead of appeasement, we have focussed on satisfaction and saturation. Saturation is true secularism. This is why the people have reposed their faith in us for a third straight term.”
The Prime Minister’s remarks came amid continuous slogans of “Justice for Manipur” and “Save Manipur” by Opposition members with some MPs converging into the Well of the House, a move that drew a sharp rebuke from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
“The House cannot run this way. You (LoP) are sitting and speaking when the Leader of the House is speaking and issuing directions asking Opposition members to enter the Well of the House. This conduct does not behove of the Leader of Opposition,” Birla said.
The Motion of Thanks to the President’s address was taken up for discussion on Monday and two days were assigned to it. The Prime Minister’s reply to the motion marks the conclusion of the debate and its adoption.
In his address in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi said that his go vernment has been blessed by the people of the country for its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. “Today, India’s credibility has increased across the world…The sole aim of our every policy, every decision, every action has been India first,” the PM said.
The Prime Minister also said that the situation in 2014 was one of despondency and hopelessness. His government, in contrast, stood committed to relentlessly serving the nation and the people. “We had said ’24×7′ for 2047. We stand committed to use every second of our public life for the interest of our country,” the Prime Minister said.
