Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday drew parallels between the Congress-led Opposition’s celebration of a perceived victory in the Lok Sabha elections held recently. Replying to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister said that the Congress’ falsehoods have even surpassed those of Sholay’s ‘Mausi’, a reference to a conversation between her and the character played by Amitabh Bachchan in the film.
“Teesri baar hi toh haare hai, par Mausi, moral victory toh hai (They have only lost for the third time, but it is a moral victory),” the Prime Minister said, adding that Congress may have failed to win a single seat in 13 states, but “Arre mausi, hero toh hai na (Congress won zero seats in 13 states but still a hero).”
The PM also narrated a story to take on the Opposition and said that the entire bloc were involved in pacifying a child. “When a child falls down riding a bicycle, elders come and tell him ‘look an ant got killed’. Similarly, attempts are underway to pacify a child,” the PM said in an apparent reference to the Opposition refusing to accept defeat.
“This is the third biggest defeat in the history of Congress. It would have been better if Congress had accepted its defeat and respected the mandate of the people but they are busy doing some ‘Sheershasana’ and Congress and its ecosystem are trying to establish in the minds of the citizens of India that they have defeated us. Bachhe ka mann behlane ka kaam chal raha hai,” said PM Modi.
The Prime Minister further said that the people of the country had given the mandate for the Congress to sit in the Opposition. “The people of this country have given a mandate to the Congress in the 2024 elections and the mandate of this country is that you sit there, sit in the opposition and when the arguments end, keep shouting. Congress could not cross 100-mark for three times in row,” he said.
