Kolkata Metro on Saturday (June 29) announced the upcoming availability of UPI-based ticketing at all booking counters along its N-S corridor. The system will soon extend to all ticketing counters for passenger convenience.
This UPI-based ticketing system was initially introduced at Automatic Smart Card Recharge Machines (ASCRM) on the Blue Line (Dakshineswar-New Garia).
Additionally, this payment method is now operational at all stations of Green Line 1 and Green Line 2 (Howrah Maidan-Esplanade and Sealdah-Sector Five).
“Instead, they have now been recharging their smart cards or purchasing tokens with the help of this alternative system,” the statement said.
Hassle-free and seamless travel
This advancement allows commuters on these lines to recharge smart cards and purchase tokens seamlessly, eliminating the need for exact change in cash.
With these enhancements, traveling on Kolkata Metro’s oldest and crucial route connecting the city’s northern and southern outskirts promises to be more efficient and hassle-free.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the State Bank of India and Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), reflects Kolkata Metro’s commitment to modernizing its payment systems for the benefit of passengers.
