Tughlakabad Metro Station is undergoing extensive development to become south Delhi’s new metro hub, facilitating connectivity between the Kashmere Gate-Raja Nahar Singh and Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridors.
According to DMRC officials, the current station is being elevated, while the new station will be underground. A subway will link the two adjacent stations within the paid area, officials disclosed.
“The Tughlakabad Metro Station is being turned into an inter-change station in Phase-4 to facilitate inter-connectivity between the Kashmere Gate–Raja Nahar Singh corridor (Line-6 violet) and the Tughlakabad–Aerocity corridor,” the officials said.
Tughlakabad metro station to be developed as new interchange hub
In Phase-4 of development, Tughlakabad Metro Station will transform into an interchange station, integrating the Kashmere Gate–Raja Nahar Singh (Line-6 violet) and Tughlakabad–Aerocity corridors. The new station will feature a four-level underground structure, with platforms approximately 23 meters deep, a concourse level, parking facilities above, and a rooftop at ground level.
The underground parking will accommodate around 250 vehicles, providing direct access to Violet and Silver Line stations via lifts, stairs, and escalators—an unprecedented feature for Delhi Metro interchanges. Additionally, a 45-meter subway will swiftly connect the old and new Tughlakabad Metro stations.
Tughlakabad metro station to be connected with Sarita Vihar depot
Officials noted that Tughlakabad will be connected to the existing Sarita Vihar depot via a tunnel, expanding its service to include Silver Line trains alongside the current Violet Line operations. This development aims to significantly reduce travel times for passengers from areas like Faridabad, enabling direct connectivity to the domestic airport.
Currently, commuters from the Violet Line must travel via Central Secretariat and the Airport Express Line, a journey taking approximately one and a half hours. The new interchange station is expected to streamline commuting for residents of Tughlakabad, Jasola, Sarita Vihar, Badarpur, and neighboring areas, offering direct access to the Indira Gandhi International Airport and its surroundings.
Construction work on schedule
Construction progress of the station is reported to be on schedule, marking Tughlakabad as south Delhi’s fourth interchange facility after Kalkaji Mandir, Lajpat Nagar, and Hauz Khas. The Aerocity-Tughlakabad Corridor, comprising four elevated and 11 underground stations, will feature interchange facilities at key points like Aerocity, Chattarpur, Saket G, and Tughlakabad, solidifying its importance within the DMRC network.
