How does the rotary tablet press work?

The machine works by compressing powder into pharmaceutical or chemical tablets. There are 3 main steps: powder filling, compression of the powder and tablet discharge. The initial step is to have the powder dosed. Next, this raw material is compressed into a final compact form by the rotary tablet press. The tablets are then ejected.

The machine works with two punches (upper and lower). The raw material is placed between these two punches and is then pre-compressed by a precompression roll. Finally, the product is compressed again with the main compression roll. The product now has its final form.

During the last stage, the upper cam of the rotary press pulls back the upper punches to their initial position; simultaneously, the lower punches are lifted until the tablets are ejected. The products will be stripped from the lower punch and passed to the discharge chute. The tablet is then ready to be coated.
